28 February. Monday. Started to prepare for Communion at the camp church. Ernie and his wife went to the city. Uncle Alexei had breakfast. Then I had military deliberations on the question of Kuropatkin. Involved were: U.[ncle] Alexei, Nikolasha, Dragomirov, count Vorontzov, Fredericks, Gesse, Sukhomlinov, Roop and Komarov. Took a walk, [snow was] melting.
