ROMANOV FAMILY PHYSICIAN: DR EVGENY BOTKIN

Recently the decision to canonize the Romanov family physician, Dr. Evgeny Sergeevich Botkin, was taken at a meeting of the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church. Based on this decision Botkin, who voluntarily followed the Romanov family into exile and was murdered along with them, has been glorified as a righteous martyr.


Dr.  Botkin, the personal physician of the Romanov family was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad back in 1981, along with the servants of the last Russian emperor’s family, who were shot along with them: the cook Ivan Kharitonov, Footman Aloise Trupp, and maid Anna Demidova.

In 2016, a new group of experts will be conducting a comprehensive examination of the remains of Romanov family members: Tsarevich Alexei and Grand Duchess Maria. According to Bishop Tikhon (Shevkunov), Vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow, time period of the new investigation is not being limited, and it is possible that it may take “two to three years“.  “We are very grateful to the leadership of the country today -His Holiness the Patriarch was informed that there will be no deadline, no hurry, no time limit will be set for this examination,” added Shevkunov. The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) finally received custody of the remains of Tsarevich Alexei and Grand Duchess Maria Romanov. The location where they are currently being stored has been determined but will kept confidential. It is only known that the remains of the two Romanov children will not be stored at the Peter & Paul Fortress in St Petersburg.

ROMANOV FAMILY REMAINS: UNIQUE PHOTO OF EXHUMATION OF ALEXANDER III

For those of you following the Romanov remains saga, this is a very unique photograph of the exhumation of the tomb of Tsar Alexander III at the St Peter & Paul Cathedral.

Samples from Alexander III’s  remains will be compared to the genetic material of his son, Tsar Nicholas II, in order to (hopefully) resolve the long lasting dispute about the Romanov remains, and bury the two younger Romanov children: Grand Duchess Maria and Tsarevich Alexei.

Genetic samples from the remains of Tsar Alexander III have been transferred to several laboratories for comparison with the remains of his son Nicholas II.

The remains of two younger children of the last Russian Tsar, Grand Duchess Maria and Tsarevich Alexei, will be buried at the beginning of next year – according to the director of the Russian State Archives Sergei Mironenko.

ROMANOV FAMILY: STREET WHERE THEY WERE MURDERED IN EKATERINBURG WILL BE RENAMED

Members of the committee of the Ekaterinburg street naming decided to rename the street to Tsarskaya.  On this street once stood the house of engineer Ipatiev once stood – where the entire Russian imperial family and their servants had been murdered in 1918. On the same spot the Cathedral  on the Spilled Blood had been erected at the turn of the 21st century. The new street name is a tribute to the murdered Romanov family, according to participants of the meeting.  The decision to rename the entire street or only a segment of it will be based on a survey of local citizens.
