ROMANOV FAMILY: ON THIS DATE IN THEIR OWN WORDS. TATIANA ROMANOV. 18 JULY, 1914.
Tatiana Romanov wrote this entry just prior to Russia’s involvement in World War I, so this was her last “normal” pre-war diary entry. Life would never be the same again after this day.
“18 July – Friday. In the morning four [of us] rode [our] bicycles in the garden. Ran a little on the giant steps . Sat in my [room] and worked and read. Had breakfast 5 with Papa and Mama. In the afternoon 4 walked with Papa. In the morning Papa had a meeting with the Council of Ministers. Had tea 4 with Papa and Mama, and A[unt] Olga . Spoke on the telephone with N.P. and N.N. , [I] was awfully glad. Later, 4 with Mama rode to Podvoriye . Tomorrow is the feast of St. Serafim. Anya was there and Lili Dehn . We left the auto near the house. Dropped off Lili at her [house] and sat there a little. Her little one is such a darling. Had dinner 4 with Mama and Papa. Spoke again with N.P. Mama is very tired in all respects.”
