OLGA ROMANOV: “CHRISTMAS EVE STORY”
Little Olga Romanov wrote this essay in her lesson book:
“In Belorussia, everyone fasts just before Christmas. First of all, the mistress of the house brings some straw to the table and covers it with a clean tablecloth. [ She then] puts a lot of different food dishes on top of the table cloth. Among these dishes there are always three different kinds of kutias. The first kutia is white, the second is yellow, and the third is black. These three kutias are made to remember the three Tsars who came to pay their respects to the Christ Child.”
