ROMANOV FAMILY: ON THIS DATE IN THEIR OWN WORDS- 3 JANUARY
From 1917 diary of Olga Romanov:
Minevich. Tuesday. 3rd January.
We 2 to Znamenie and to the infirmary.
Abashidze had surgery. Removed shrapnel from his neck. Made a lot of beds, changed dressings, set up, etc. There was enough to do. Fed Merkuriev. Voskanov and D[illegible] were transferred. Ate all together.
We 4 went to the Grand Palace – at about 4 o’clock we 3 took a walk with Papa. Very cold, 16 deg. of frost, bright in the evening.
At 6 o’clock went to Anya’s and sat with the Cossacks. Aleks. K., Vikt. And Yuzik, like last time in front of the fireplace. After that, only one lamp was lit on the floor, [we] took turns sitting in the comfortable chair, fought with Vikt. [illegible] with pillows and pushed each other hard for the best chair. It was so cozy and nice.
Alex.[ei]’s voice is somewhat better. Lishevich had dinner. [He] spoke nicely with Mama. Her voice is also hoarse.
Papa read Chekhov to us, “The Teacher”. After that [I] wrote to Anya’s dictation the words and notes of Father Grigori.
After 11o’clock to bed. Al. is [doing] fine, [he] took a walk.
