The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) finally received custody of the remains of Tsarevich Alexei and Grand Duchess Maria Romanov. The location where they are currently being stored has been determined but will kept confidential. It is only known that the remains of the two Romanov children will not be stored at the Peter & Paul Fortress in St Petersburg.

This story is dedicated to the most loyal, but too often forgotten, servant of the Romanov family: Klementy Grigorievich Nagorny.

Klementy Grigorievich Nagorny, the last Dyad’ka (“Uncle”, or sailor nanny) caretaker of Tsarevich  Alexei, was born in 1887 in the Village of Pustovarovka, to a peasant family.  Nagorny became a sailor on the Imperial Yacht “The Standart”, and eventually was appointed as assistant caretaker of Tsarevich Alexei, to the Boatswain A.E. One of few entertainments the Romanov family had in captivity in Tobolsk, especially during the cold winter months when they could not go outside, was putting on plays. The youngest imperial children were especially enthusiastic about dressing up and memorizing the lines, and had a lot of fun doing it. Grand Duchess Olga was in charge of writing out the scripts and . Some of these scripts written in her hand survived and are currently kept at the Russian archives in Moscow. (more…)
