TIME TRAVEL WITH ROMANOV FAMILY: FEODOROVSKY CATHEDRAL

In the distance, floating above treetops one can see the golden dome of the Feodorovsky Cathedral. As you walk through the tree-lined alley, the cathedral emerges.

Feodorovsky Cathedral was consecrated in 1912 and restored to its pre-revolutionary glory in 2005. Above the parish entrance are the icons of Nicholas and Alexandra and the icon of St Seraphim of Sarov, the last Tsar’s and Tsarina’s favorite saint. TIME TRAVEL WITH ROMANOV FAMILY: ZNAMENIE CHURCH

ZNAMENIE: Church of the Sign. Tsarskoe Selo circa 1915.

ZNAMENIE CHURCH: Church of “The Sign” – was established at the request of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Petrovna (daughter of Peter the Great) on May 13, 1734, and designed by the architect M.G. Zemtsov. After her accession to the throne, the Empress Elizabeth commanded that her ancient icon of the Mother of God of the Sign, would be especially honored there. Later the church was rebuilt and embellished, but the icon remained there and became known as the “Tsarskoe Selo” Icon of the Mother of God of the Sign.
