From the diary of Tsesarevich Alexei:
“18 August [1916]. Had two lessons. Wrote [a letter] to Mama. Had breakfast with everyone in the tent. The day is hot. In the afternoon rode along the Dnieper. Before the walk on the pier Makarov ran over again to say goodbye. After dinner, I played in my garden and went to town. In the evening a storm broke with terrible downpour. Sig [Gibbs] read to me. Studied. Went to bed early.
